The Area

The countryside surrounding the House provides opportunities for walking and cycling so our visitors can enjoy small valleys with green meadows, hundreds of small rivers and woods with native species such as oaks, cork-trees ... You will be able to discover interesting wetlands such as the Lake of Olives or to contemplate, from the view point of A Rocha, the magnificent views of the Ulla Valley as it opens out to the Ría of Arousa. Other interesting visits include the stately homes in Oca and A Mota as well as several small romanic churches which can all be reached by foot or on bicycles.

There is a wide variety of options if you want to plan an outing by car. You can go to the amazing waterfalls on the river Toxa near the Monastery of Carboeiro. The wild countryside on the banks of the Ulla at San Xoán of Cova (Gundián) is well worth a visit, as are the islands in Ponteledesma and its romanic bridge. On clear days the summit of the Pico Sacro makes an excepcional view point over the countryside surrounding Santiago. Towards the Terra de Montes (Land of Mountains) you can visit the monastery of Acibeiro at the foot of the Mountains of Candán and the springs of the rivers Lérez and Umia.

In this area adventure sports such as rafting or canoing are avaliable.

From the Big House of Vilanova customers can visit the historical city of Santiago (24km away), which is a Human Heritage site and a cultural symbol for Galicia and the West of Europe.

It is also possible to make a flying visit from Vilanova to the Rías Galegas: Arousa, Pontevedra, Noia, Vigo ...
